Frequently Asked Questions. If you still have additional questions, contact us at tenderbeginningstn@gmail.com
* Is homebirth safe?
Yes! All studies of homebirth with CPMs support that homebirth is safe. The most recent study is detailed in the prestigious British Medical Journal. However, homebirth is not for everyone. Therefore, we offer doula services for those who prefer a hospital setting.
* What happens if a medical problem arises during pregnancy that is considered high risk for a homebirth?
We have several doctors of consult that work with us and depending on where you live, we would consult with that particular doctor in your area.
* Isn’t having a baby at home messy?
No. We clean up any mess that occurs and do laundry associated with the birth and take out any trash. Usually one cannot tell there was a birth except for the beautiful baby present.
* What are the most common reasons for transfer to a hospital?
Failure to progress and request for pain medication.
* What happens if there is an emergency during labor?
Most of the time we do not have a dire emergency. We are monitoring Mom and baby throughout the process at regular intervals and watch for any signs of impending risk. We carry all necessary emergency equipment to assist us in correcting these impending risks.
* Do you accept insurance?
We bill insurance for midwifery fees. We all bill as out of network providers. It will depend on which company you are with, from what state the policy is issued, and the type of policy, i.e. HMO, EPO, or PPO as to what they will reimburse if any. If you have a PPO policy it is most likely that they will pay something.
* What is the first step if I am interested in your services?
Call to schedule a free (no strings attached) consult in your home. We try to schedule this consult so that any one who is involved with making a decision regarding your birth can attend, i.e.., father of the baby, close friends or other family members.
